A broken expansion joint forced a temporarily closing of I-244 over the Arkansas River on Friday afternoon.

ODOT officials say the top piece of an expansion joint popped up and crews had to cut it off and open it back off. That is normal wear and tear and took about 15 minutes to repair.

As a precaution crews will take a closer look when lanes in that area are closed on Saturday for scheduled surface repairs.
