A man told police he found a toddler wandering a North Tulsa street alone and barefoot early Thursday morning.
Tulsa police said the 2 1/2 –year-old boy was found in the middle of the street in the 1300 block of Mohawk Boulevard around 4:55 a.m.
FOX23 News was the only crew there as the mother was reunited with her child at their home.
"Thank God. I started crying, I was so happy," said Marie LeBeau.
The mother hadn't seen her toddler since she went to bed at 1 a.m and when she woke up at 7:30 a.m. her son, Blaze, was gone.
"I looked in his play pen, patted and, ‘Oh my God, Blaze,’” said LeBeau.
She looked outside and thought someone may have taken her child.
"I'm yelling, ‘Ggive me my baby back!’" Thinking someone around here took him," said LeBeau. "I was just so scared."
She called police who told her a man found her son wandering nearly a mile away from her home on Mohawk Boulevard near North Peoria Avenue. Her son had been taken by DHS to a shelter.
"Someone had him, thank God he didn't get ran over," said LeBeau.
LeBeau said she knows Blaze, at age 2 1/2, is getting around a lot faster and able to get out of his crib.
"He just went through a growth spurt," said LeBeau.
She told FOX23 News she will wake up to any sound her son makes but she didn't last night.
"I worked a 10-hour shift yesterday. I went to bed at 1. I was exhausted," said LeBeau.
She said at first DHS wasn't going to give her son back until court on Monday.
"I begged and pleaded with her to give me my son back today," said the mother.
She said a case worker checked her home and background and allowed LeBeau to take custody of her son.
Family members were installing heavy-duty bolts and locks to ensure Blaze cannot wander out of the home again.
The case is still under investigation.
In the last month there have been multiple reports of children found wandering alone. Since then the Tulsa County District Attorney said he would consider filing charges. He has not filed in a recent case and has declined charges in one case.
