Classes were dismissed early at Eufaula High School after rumors of school violence.
The Eufaula Police Chief says the high school was placed on lock down to investigate the rumors of a threat. Police say those rumors turned out to be a conversation a teacher and student had about school violence and the Mayan calendar, the story was repeated and embellished.
A student texted the principal about the rumor and it was then perceived as a threat and the police were called. The FBI is working to track the story backwards. Officials think the threat was unintentional and don’t expect to charge anyone.
They dismissed the high school early and put police officers at the elementary and middle schools to ease parents’ minds.
