Tulsa Police Department’s Riverside Division officers had an easy way into their parking lot Sunday morning.
The gate was down on the ground and dragged over to the side.
The accused driver of a red pickup truck, 27-year-old Matthew John White, told police someone who was armed was chasing him and he turned into the Riverside police division’s parking lot crashing through their security gate and kept going through the police station’s car wash then stopped in the parking lot.
“I was surprised to see it when I came to work,” said Cpl. Scott Anderson. “His story was he had stolen the vehicle back from somebody who had stolen the vehicle from his friend.”
Cpl. Anderson hopes the crash was just an accident.
“I don't think he was trying to do anything other than to get away, maybe he thought the police station would be a safe station I guess,” said Cpl. Anderson.
White had a woman passenger, she was not arrested. White was taken into custody on traffic charges; however, those could change as the investigation continues.
One of the police officer’s recorded some of the chase on his car’s dashboard camera. That video was not available to FOX23 News on Sunday.
The gate damage totals about $3,000.
