The norovirus is commonly confused for influenza.

The norovirus is what most people refer to as the stomach flu. It has similar flu-like symptoms, including:

Low-grade fever
Chills
Muscle aches
Headache
Fatigue
Except stomach symptoms are more prominent such as:
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Stomach cramps

Respiratory problems are not symptoms with norovirus. Norovirus is easily contagious though because there is no vaccine for it.

“The greatest challenge with norovirus, and physicians including myself see it every day here, is staying hydrated,” said Dr. Scott Cyrus. Dr. Cryrus oversees the physicians staff at six Tulsa hospitals.

“Because the stomach is so irritable a little bit of fluid can cause a lot of fluid to be lost whether through diarrhea or vomiting. Fevers also cause you to sweat so with the norovirus you are also losing fluid that way.”

The norovirus spreads through the air. Some FOX23 viewers claim their whole office had been sick with it once, or if one family member caught it then all of them would come down with it.

“It’s airborne, and mouth to hand, washing your hands is the real secret,” said Dr. Cyrus. “Washing your hands over and over and over again, after you blow your nose, after you cover your mouth when you cough, when you are sick stay home from work too.”

Dr. Cyrus also said the virus can affect your blood pressure levels.

“You can become faint, light-headedness, dizziness, these are the symptoms you might see if you are not keeping up with the hydration.”
