For the 2nd year in a row Discoveryland will not open its doors for the summer season.
Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical, “Oklahoma" at Discoveryland is considered a summer staple in Sand Springs. Last year, FOX23 reported the show was cancelled and it has now been announced on Facebook that the theater will remain closed this summer.
The gates that have lead into Discoveryland for nearly 40 years are now locked and all of the loyal fans and people who have been coming summer after summer found out about it on Facebook.
Love of the musical drew Rick Cope to Discoveryland year and year.
“The young people are incredible and the music is ageless,” said Cope.
The Facebook post from the owners on June 3rd is really bad news to him
“It’s disappointing, I love having it here in our community it is something to brag about,” he said.
The musical typically runs June 3rd to August 6t, but it won't be heard in the theater this summer. Comments poured on to the Discoveryland Facebook page as fans posted about their sadness at the news.
Cope said when you grew up with a good thing its hard not to miss it.
“We miss it, I think it’s bad for the community for it not to be there,” said Cope.
The message on Facebook said, ‘please don't give up on us,’ so many people in and around the area, are hoping they will be back open for the 2014 summer season.
