Law enforcement agents involved in the investigation into the shooting death of Mary Escue revealed details about how they found the 14-year old suspect.

Investigators say Sapulpa police contacted them after getting a tip about items from the crime scene they had seen, the tipster had also heard about the murder.

After the search in Sapulpa the victim’s missing car was located and deputies took three occupants into custody for questioning.

After interviewing two of the occupants deputies discovered there was a .22 caliber rifle that was in the vehicle earlier that day, the rifle was confiscated in connection to the home invasion.

Joshua Mooney was interviewed while his mother was present, deputies say he and his mother signed waivers that he would speak to the investigators.

Deputies say Mooney told them he broke into the house through a window to look for money.  They say Mooney said he found four firearms while he was looking for money and was searching the house when the victim came home.

Deputies say Mooney told them he hid in the kitchen with the rifle when he heard the victim in the house and once the woman came inside Mooney told deputies he surprised her and forced her into the computer room at gunpoint.

Deputies say Mooney told them he aimed the rifle at her head and fired a shot, he told deputies he knew he got her because she did not make any sounds and there was blood on the floor.

Mooney stated he then gathered some change that was around the house and some money from the victim’s wallet. Mooney stated he then took the keys to the victim’s car and drove to Sapulpa because he had to get out of Tulsa County for what he had done.

Mooney told deputies he took the rifle with him when he left.

Mary Escue's family released a short statement about being heartbroken over her death.  Escue, 47, was found shot to death in her parents home in Jenks late Monday night. Investigators say She lived in Nevada with her husband and was visiting family in Tulsa.  Her parents discovered her body just after midnight on Monday.  Jenks police say her death is the first murder in Jenks since 2007.

Joshua Mooney, 14, was arrested on Tuesday night for the crime. Investigators do not believe Mooney knew the victim or her parents, they do not know how or why he chose that house.

Officials say David L. Moss often houses inmates under the age of 17, but they are pretty sure this may be the first time they've held a 14-year old on a murder charge.

I am at a lost for words, I personally worked with the mom. She is not a dentist, she is a dental assistant. Im not sure what went wrong in Josh's life but being brought up with a single mom half his life and having a mom that is way into her self and her husband instead of her child is a big problem. Know what is going on with your child and don't ever stop fighting to help them.

Monkduke, let me try to help you understand things better. I speak from experience, please trust me. The parents in this situation are not without fault. When you try to teach a kid that he "wont be cool unless he wears $50 silk underwear" these types of things happen. But then again the "system" seriously failed the community and the Escue family in the end. Josh has been a problem for years and this kid really needed to be locked up. Yes the parents, both of them, tried many times getting police, judges, INSURANCE COMPANY (fault lies here in my eyes) and hospitals to help them with Josh. But if you ask me this child was taught a very disturbed value system in the beginning, that with mental instability spawned this situation.

He is just a bad kid. He got kicked out of his old school for stealikg from a teacher and he rought weed to school last uear (didnt get caught... But i was in his art class and he showed it to the guy at my table and that just confirmed my decision to not talk to this guy) i hate how everyone on instagram and facebook is saying to pray for him. Also, theres like an 80% chance he will be tried as an adult but people are saying the 17 and 18 year olds with hom could have made him say he did it so they wouldnt be tried as adults. And with all due respect i think adults really do forget what its like to be a teen in some ways. Your friends pressure you into something and then it gets very out of hand. It happens to everyone. Some fall of their bikes and break an arm... Some are stupid enough to rob a house, ruining his life, his relationship with the hottest girl in school, and his sports career.

Monkduke ;-( thanks for that clarification. It sucks even worse now knowing that this puke already had plenty. Mommy being well off insures that this creep will have plenty of money on his books while he's incarcerated.

If they do not try him as an adult I will lose all confidence and respect for the justice system.

I want to take a moment to say that it wasnt the moms fault. She is a dentist who works long hours. He was well cared for and loved, he just was not given the guidance he needed. I am a 14 year old student at jenks middle school and i was in his hallway. I want everyone to know, he switched out of jenks a few weeks before the shooting to sapulpa, where the other kids involved went to school. I am angered that our amazing school is being labeled because of josh. There are 1200 twelve to fourteen year olds in our school, dont let this one bad person ruin your opinion on one of the best schools in Oklahoma, in both athletics and academics.
