Demolition began on Tuesday on the Manion Park Community center in south Tulsa.

This is the 2nd of nine such demolitions planned by the Tulsa Parks System. The city says the dilapidated community centers have become too expensive to operate. Each of the nine parks will instead get pavilions and water features.

Last summer, Turner Park Community Center was torn down and replaced with a pavilion, walking trails and security lights. There has been objection from the north Tulsa community to plans to tear down community centers at BC Franklin, Springdale and Ben Hill Park.
