The amphitheater stairs that David and Somer Atkins run at River West Festival Park have turned into an obstacle course.
“It’s just constant awareness of what’s around you and what is around us is broken bottles, glass and trash,” said David.
FOX23 alerted the River Parks Authority about the trash problem on February 18th. River Park officials told FOX23 that maintenance staff member were tired up with tree removal projects along the river, but would clean up the trash.
The trash still hadn’t been picked up on March 4th.
“If you look around down on the ground you would probably see broken bottles,” said David, “We’ve seen needles and diapers too.”
Somer says the trash can be an eyesore, but it hasn’t kept her from running in the park.
“There’s beer cans, broken bottles and fast food garbage out here,” said Somer.
Eric Chinneth told FOX23 he was concerned about his animals.
“I walk my dogs in this area and there is a lot of broken glass,” said Chinneth.
FOX23 contacted the River Parks Authority and they said the trash was supposed to be cleared up during “Volunteer Clean Up Day” on February 23rd.
The cleanup didn’t get to the area near the amphitheater. Officials say that there will be a cleanup crew out there to clean up the area on Tuesday.
