(TULSA, Okla.) January 13 - Tonight every television station in Oklahoma will air the "Crystal Darkness" documentary.

It's a program meant to raise awareness about meth and its effects. It’s designed to reach out to families who are struggling with meth addiction, and provide them with the tools they need to get better.

It will also feature real life testimonials of people trying to kick the habit.

According to a report out in 2005, more than 6% of high school seniors admit to using meth at least once.

Meth use in Oklahoma is reportedly 42% percent higher here than the national average. Street names for the drug include ice, crank, and speed.

And it's very easy to make meth. Police say all you need are ingredients used for your car or to fix your drain.

"Availability is one of them. I think the drug itself is not just easy to obtain but easy to use. You can use it intravenously can smoke it, you can eat it, you can snort it,” says Sergeant Mike Parsons with the Tulsa Police Department.

Experts say the actual chemicals themselves can cause numerous health problems including kidney and liver failure, and even lung and eye issues.

And there are also safety issues to consider; meth houses can easily catch on fire.

Police say one of the reasons for this is because meth users are sometimes mixing all of their chemicals into one container.

Clinicians we spoke with say without treatment there is little hope for a meth addict.

If you think meth is being made in your neighborhood you can call the meth hotline.
The number to call is 592-METH.

You can tune into the 30-minute documentary tonight on FOX23 at 6:30pm.

The state will also have people on hand during and after the program for questions.
