FOX23 learned patients with sore throats are packing doctor's offices in Tulsa. Doctors told us many people are mistaking it for the flu.
Age doesn't matter when it comes to being sick.
Dr. Stan Stacy at My Doctor Urgent Care in South Tulsa said, "Over the last two weeks a lot of strep throat."
He said that happens this time of year.
He said, "People are outdoors less. They're around each other in kind of closer corners."
It is flu season but he told FOX23 none of his patients have tested positive for it, yet.
"We've tested several people that look like the flu but so far not so much but should be coming along anytime," Dr. Stacy said.
Unlike a common cold, we’ve learned the flu takes more than just a few days and Vitamin C to get over.
He told FOX23’s Price McKeon, "It's something that usually takes a week to get over. It really makes you feel pretty bad, that's why you should get your flu shot every year."
The saying ‘the flu shot makes you sick’ is not entirely true said Dr. Stacy.
He said it can give you the sniffles though, "But it should give you a protracted you know 104 fever, body aches and laying in the bed flu."
Dr. Stacy told McKeon if you get the flu shot you can still get the flu.
He said, "The flu vaccine is really just the best guess of what the flu is going to be."
That guess, he said, is better than no guess at all and it is still not too late to get a flu shot.
