County Commissioner organizes neighborhood clean up

Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith worked with the Tulsa Area United Way to coordinate a neighborhood cleanup effort will kick off in the Lake Station neighborhood.

“The Lake Station neighborhood is a great area just outside Sand Springs along Charles Page Boulevard,” said Keith. “But there are a lot of properties and homeowners that could use some help. I’m excited to get this started on Friday.”

Volunteers and residents will be cleaning common areas and properties of brush, overgrowth and debris. The clean up starts at 9 am at Old Lake School 1316 S. 79th W. Avenue, Sand Springs.

“We’ve done a few of these cleanups around my district in the last couple years. In each of them, the residents have really responded by investing more time and money in their homes. It not only helps the attractiveness of our neighborhoods, but also improves their value,” Keith said.

“This is also an opportunity to get some of our talented and service-minded students out working in the neighborhoods. I am thrilled that the Tulsa Met School accepted this project. Their efforts will make a huge difference on the community,” Keith added. “In addition, I want to also thank one of our neighborhood heroes, Don Comstock, a resident of the area, for putting together the logistics and planning of this cleanup. Don is a treasure to this community, as he spends countless hours working with other area volunteers to help spruce up the Charles Page corridor.”

During this cleanup, volunteer teams will move through the neighborhood to pick up litter and debris. There will also be a team cleaning along the Katy Trail between 65th W. Avenue and 81st W. Avenue.

Project partners include: The Tulsa MET High School (A Tulsa Public Schools’ Innovative School), The Tulsa Beautification Foundation supported by the George Kaiser Family Foundation, QuikTrip Corporation, American Waste Control, The Metropolitan Environmental Trust.
