Construction closes part of 61st

Starting on Thursday 61st Street will close between Rockford and Utica Avenues for sanitary sewer work.

The street will be closed for installation of a large sanitary sewer. The road will be closed for approximately 60 days. A detour will be marked to direct motorists around the closure.

City officials say this is part of an ongoing project to widen 61st Street between Riverside Parkway and Peoria Avenue and also the intersection of 61st and Peoria. The project includes storm drainage and sanitary sewer improvements.

The City of Tulsa has contracted with Becco Contractors Inc. for this $11 million project funded by the 2006 Third Penny Sales Tax. Completion of the project is scheduled for April 2013.
