The 70 foot tall screen at the Admiral Twin Drive-In Theater in north Tulsa burned to the ground on September, 3rd 2010. 17 months later, the Drive-In’s owner showed off the progress of construction on a new screen to FOX23.

“This is a chance with a fresh start,” Blake Smith said.

In the days that followed the fire, thousands of Tulsans donated close to $30,000 to help with the rebuilding efforts.

“I still want to come here, I still want to make more memories,” one supporter told FOX23 in October of 2010.

Proving the doubters wrong, the Admiral Twin's owner showed us the progress Tulsans wanted so badly.

“The building is probably 95-percent done, and the tower is going up. They're quite a ways up now it looks like,” Smith said.

The new structure will include new restrooms, concession stand, and a new, improved metal screen.

“(There will be) no wood. We learned,” Smith said about the materials used to erect the screen.

Construction at the site is moving in baby steps.

“Probably in another two months you'll really be able to see something,” Smith said.

Smith would not give a concrete opening day, saying only that the Admiral Twin should be open sometime this summer.
