U.S. Congressman Markwayne Mullin's chief of staff announced on Saturday that death threats have been made against the congressman, his wife, and children.
Mullin, a Republican, was elected to serve Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District in November.
In a news release, Mullin's chief of staff Karl Ahlgren said "Federal law enforcement authorities consider this to be a 'serious matter due to the content and nature of the threatening letters which were received.'"
Ahlgren said local and federal authorities have been notified about the threats and are investigating. FOX23 called the Capitol Police in Washington DC, and a spokesperson said, "We do not comment on the security of Congressional members."
The release said that precautions have been made to ensure the safety of Mullin's wife and children. The release said Mullin's staff would not comment any further about the threats.
