While many people in Oklahoma may be getting a new firearm for Christmas, others are spending their holidays taking concealed carry classes.

Bill Humphries is the owner of Concealed Carry Coweta and he's seen a boom in business in the past few months.

"Last year, I didn't even teach classes in November and December -- there just wasn't any demand -- and this year I've had a good bit of demand and I'm scheduling classes for January," he said.

He said he has a good idea as to why more people are signing up, "as people see more and more on the news about home break-ins and mass shootings and other things, there is a generally sense of uneasiness or lack of security," he said.

About a third to half of his students are women, and his class in February may be all female.

To sign up for the class, you have to be at least 18 years old, but you can't apply for your concealed carry license until you're 21.

"I think it's just a general awareness in the public that things seem to be less safe than they used to be and people are just looking for opportunities to be safer," he said.
