The former police chief and mayor of Claremore was laid to rest Thursday.

Mayor Mickey Perry passed away on Dec.16 at the age of 66.

Police cars lined the streets and there was a salute of honor as Perry's casket was placed into a hearse.

Many say the man who spent his life giving to others will never be forgotten.

"He was a wonderful guy and he loved everybody, particularly the youth. The younger he was the more he loved them and the more he did for them and even when he became mayor he couldn't do enough," said Farrell Prater, a friend of Perry's.

Prater said Perry spent countless hours serving various community organizations, including delivering food baskets to the needy and overseeing the fundraising for Send a Kid to Camp. As a result of his efforts more than 1,000 children got the opportunity most would never have had.

"If Claremore had a (town) son, I don't know who would have that title more than Mickey. It goes far past the boundaries of Claremore and the lives he impacted," said Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton.

Walton knew Perry well.

"He did so much for so many people that you never even knew about and it's an understatement to say he was the pillar of this community," said Walton.

Perry spent 41 years of his life dedicated to law enforcement.
