A grandmother contacted Fox 23 with claims that her granddaughter has been the victim of ongoing racism.
The 13-year old is a 7th grade student at Charles Haskell Middle School in Broken Arrow.
According to Willa Morrison, two weeks ago, several students called her granddaughter the "n" word.
Broken Arrow Spokesperson Keith Isbell said Haskell's principal did reprimand the students who had harassed the girl and though it the issue was resolved.
However, the girl told her family that recently, during physical education class, some students intentionally hit her in the face with a ball, during a dodge ball game.
The family stressed that the rule of the game is to attack your opponent with a ball, below the waist.
Morrison said the verbal abuse obviously escalated into a physical attack.
The family contacted the school, but did not receive any positive response.
"If nobody is going to tell them stop that, this is wrong, then who's to say the next little Black girl won't suffer something," Morrison said. "She's afraid, she doesn't feel safe there at the school."
Isbell said the school's administrators are willing to sit down with the family to resolve the issue.
According to the district's policy, any student found guilty of racial insensitivity will be assigned to S.A.C. (Student Alternative Classroom), isolated from other students or possibly suspension.
