Mayor Dewey Bartlett said the City of Tulsa's sales tax revenues for December 2011 are up 9.5 percent compared to the same month last year.

“The holiday season was good,” Mayor Bartlett said. “Because of the announced layoffs at American Airlines and potentially the United States Postal Service, however, we remain cautious about future growth.”

The percentage increase was adjusted for a change in rates from 3 percent to 3.167 percent, an additional 0.167 percent that had been collected for a Tulsa County funding package now goes towards the 2008 Fix Our Streets package. The change does not affect the City’s general fund.

The City received $21,233,010 from the Oklahoma Tax Commission this month compared to $18,367,046 in February of 2011. It also exceeds the budget estimate of $19,874,000 for the month.

The city has $145,718,813 in sales taxes for the first eight months of the fiscal year; up 7.6 percent from the previous year. Use taxes are also up 49.2 percent for the month, compared to February 2011.
