The City of Tulsa will hold its surplus property auction on Saturday, May 4th.

The auction includes mowing equipment, an incubator from the Tulsa Zoo, a large fish aquarium system, a hardwood gym floor, a silk-screen printing system for T-shirts, street paving equipment, and building materials such as carpet and ceramic tiles. The downtown street light signs for the Bassmaster Classic and March Madness also are up for bids.

Bidders will find a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment, office equipment and miscellaneous merchandise, including many brand-new police property room items. Also included are generators, air compressors, water meters and approximately 300 trash carts.

All sales are "as is." It is the bidder's responsibility to determine condition and quality of merchandise. Three auctioneers will be selling simultaneously, so bidders wanting to be able to bid on multiple items should bring a partner/proxy.

Mark Gelino has been coming to the city's surplus auction for two years now. Friday is a day for shoppers to come out and preview the items for sale and he has his eye on thing in particular.

"Here I'm looking for security equipment. Our neighborhood has had a problem with crime so we're going to get everybody rigged up with security equipment so we can watch each other's houses."

FOX23 searched for unusual items and found a tattoo kit, and for all you coin collectors out there, bicentennial medal collection.

One of the more popular items at the auction this year is a poster from the Bassmaster Classic.

Sandra Banks has the enormous job of coordinating all the items for sale, and while it can be tedious at times, she always finds that diamond in the rough.

"We have an exam chair that came in from OSU Medical and it looks like it's straight out of the 40's."

There will be three auctions going on at the same time, so make sure if you want something outside, you have a friend posted inside to bid for you. All of the money raised from the auction will be put right back into the city budget or the agency the item came from.

The sale will be held at 9:30 am at the City’s surplus property facility, 108 N. Trenton Ave. That site is two blocks north and one block west of the I-244 and Utica Avenue intersection.

Merchandise will be available for viewing on Friday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The site will open at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, for viewing merchandise before the sale begins.

Bidders can register at the auction site, but registering online before the auction is encouraged. To see a list of merchandise and to register online, visit: http://www.joepippinauctioneers.com.

Bidders who register online should write down and carry their bidder number so that they won’t have to stand in line to re-register at the auction site. Once registered, bidders can bid for items online until 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 3. Online bids will compete with in-person bids when the auction begins.

Cash, Mastercards and Visa cards are accepted. Checks can be accepted only if accompanied by a letter of guaranty from the financial institution on which the check is drawn. Payment is required in full within one hour after the auction ends.

Sales are subject to applicable local and state taxes, unless a sales tax permit is provided with proof of regular engagement in the re-sale business for items purchased. An Oklahoma Tax Commission auditor may be present.

No one under age 16 may be admitted at the City surplus property facility.

Questions about the auction can be directed to the City of Tulsa’s Finance Department at 918-596-7233.
