The Tulsa City Council is holding a public hearing to consider the renaming of Brady Street and Brady Place to Burlington Street and Burlington Place.

The meeting will be at the City Council Meeting Room on the second floor of City Hall, 175 E. 2nd St., on Aug. 8 at 6 p.m.

The council would like anyone with an interest in the renaming of Brady Street and Brady Place to appear at this meeting and voice their opinion.

The council is sending a letter, attached to this story, to notify property owners of this public hearing.

Any person can sign up to speak on the issue prior to the start of the public hearing. Each speaker will be given five minutes. At the conclusion of the hearing, the City Council will vote whether to change the name.

Concerned citizens are also encouraged to submit their opinion in writing to Council Administrator Drew Rees, 175 E. 2nd St., Suite 400, Tulsa, OK 74103, or by email at DRees@tulsacouncil.org.

Leave the name alone. The blacks would change the whole country if they could.

No one has said anything about the cost of renaming the street to the taxpayers. I will not support any city councilor or any tax hike by the city if this passes the council. We Tulsans have alot more important issues to be concerned with.

If they are going to change the name of Brady street because he could have been apart of kkk and possibly apart of the massacre then we need to change all the MLK signs too being he promoted hate and violence towards whites causing more racial tension, hate and blind ignorance living in todays world with a black president the term "its the white mans fault" just doesnt cut it anymore its all choice.

If you look for Burlington Negro emancipation you find that Burlington NY is the cradle of Negro emancipation. http://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?p=Burlington%2Femancipation+of+Negro+slaves By changing it from Brady to Burlington seems to me to be a racial slant. So let's think of another name with no racial bias connected to it at all. Otherwise leave it alone. Kinda makes me think that jack wants to turn it into a black magnet. A spot where seekers could kneel and kiss the ground. I wonder how that would effect property values in that area. Having random strangers arrive in your hood cause they're seeking their Mecca. I have a few friends who live in Brady Heights. And they are proud of the accomplishments that they have achieved in their Brady homes. Give them a break and let them live their lives in peace and quiet please.
