It is snowing in Tulsa and Green Country and crews are working to keep drivers safe.

City of Tulsa workers are treating Tulsa arterial streets with salt as streets are being covered with snow this morning.

City officials say employees with commercial driver licenses who are able to operate the large spreader trucks and snow plows are diverted from other non-emergency duties to assist with treating streets during winter storms.

The city is also diverting green waste collection crews to street maintenance duties.

Street maintenance supervisors in the Streets & Stormwater Department will continue to monitor weather forecasts and street conditions and crews will remain on duty as long as conditions require.

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority says they're dealing mostly with wet pavement, they are treating bridges and overpasses.

ODOT tells FOX23 crews continue to monitor road conditions as more precipitation, falling temperatures and refreezing moisture are expected over night. Be cautious of black ice developing which can look wet on the roadway but is actually a thin layer of ice.

Currently in northern Oklahoma and the panhandle, ODOT crews are treating conditions ranging from wet to slushy roads. Oklahoma City and Tulsa are reporting wet roads at this time. The eastern part of the state is treating isolated slick spots.

They urge drivers should continue to use caution, especially in workzones, and allow extra travel time.

EMSA officials say as of 8 on Wednesday evening crews have responded to 25 injury motor vehicle collisions with nine transports, and five slip and fall injuries with three transports. None of the calls were serious or critical.

In a typical day EMSA officials say they respond to an average of 12 collisions per day.
