A church in west Tulsa is giving back to the community one home at a time.
Church members hope to give away five homes with a little help from the public. It’s all in an effort to stabilize a struggling part of our city. Five homes were donated to Restoration Christian Center, and the pastor is hoping with a little TLC a family can move in at the end of August.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect for Lisa Hammond. She and her husband have three small children and are in desperate need of a roof over their heads.
"In 2008 our house got condemned in Ardmore and so we didn't have a choice but to move back here. I guess it had lead in it and they didn't want to help us with it and it went in to foreclosure,” says Hammond.
Lisa is excited to have something stable she can pass along to her children.
"It's hard, it's very hard especially having to move your children here and there and everywhere,” she says.
Pastor Billy Joe Bruner is the head of Restoration Christian Center. He and his wife Donna have a passion to see families in north Tulsa become homeowners.
"If we get homeowners it brings pride and stability to the community, and that's our desire for everybody,” says Bruner.
The homes which were donated by an anonymous businesswoman have seen better days so the church is looking for volunteers and donated supplies to finish the work.
"If there's an hour that you can help us get the homes ready for those that are homeless, they really need some help,” says Donna Bruner.
