A fire ripped through an Osage County church, so FOX23 went to Osage County to dig into the efforts of finding whoever started the fire.

We spoke with the pastor today and he says the church has insurance and that insurance will not only rebuild this church but some of the money could go to helping bring the person or persons responsible to justice.

Pastor David Downing says when he first heard of the fire from one of his church members, he thought it was a joke.

"He said 'Hey preacher the church is on fire' and he's always goofing with me and I said you got to be kidding," Downing told FOX23.

He quickly found out this was no prank, it was reality, his church was on fire.

He said they got three different fire stations up here, so I got up there.

That was around 7 a.m., and according to fire officials, the fire had been burning for hours.

"Yea about seven hours," Downing said.
Downing tells FOX23 once the fire was out, fire officials had him walk through the damaged building to see if anything was missing.

"Sure enough the base, the amp and the tuner for that base were missing," Downing told us.

Downing says the back door had been pried open, which he thinks allowed the fire to grow and cause more damage.

It burned everything from the ceilings chandeliers to the ceiling fans.

Luckily the church has insurance and soon it will be able to start to rebuild.

But the insurance could also help them catch whoever is behind this crime.

"They said we can talk to the crime stoppers and our insurance will pay up to $15,000 for the arrest and conviction of this person," Downing said.

Pastor Downing says as upset as this makes him, he still has a forgiving heart but he knows the law does not work the same way.

"Everybody messes up but I'm sorry to say that this mess up is going to cost them some time," Downing told FOX23.
