The Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s Lake Division responded to a drowning call at Copan Lake on July 27.

Deputies were dispatched to the emergency room at Jane Phillips Hospital and were informed that a two-year-old girl had been brought in by her father.

Deputies said the child, along with her siblings, were playing along the rock bluff located on the north side of Osage Plains Camp Grounds, a short time later all of the children were called to come up to the picnic area to eat, when the two-year-old did not come her father and the witnesses looked for her.

She was found lying face down in the lake water along the rock bluff, the witness jumped into the water and pulled the girl out of the water but she was unresponsive. The witness started CPR and the child was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
