The Medical Examiner’s Office has determined four women killed at the Fairmont Terrace apartments earlier this month died from gun shot wounds.
Amy Elliot with the Medical Examiner’s office says Rebeika Powell and Kayetie Melchor died from multiple gunshot wounds, Misty Nunley and Julie Jackson were killed by single gunshot wounds. The manner of death for all four women is classified as a homicide. Toxicology reports are still pending and the final ME report will not be available until that is complete.
Detectives tell FOX23 they think the twins were the targets in this case, as evidenced by the multiple gunshot wounds.
The twins' father, Larry Powell, says he thinks an arrest will bring relief, "it's horrible, the only thing is I feel like that will be a relief is we can't let these people go. They got to be stopped. No one is safe. If they have done this once they are going to do it again."
The women were found shot to death in an apartment near 61st and Peoria on January 7th. No arrests have been made, but the DA recently asked and received a bond increase for Freddie Hayes who they say may have witnessed the homicides or could be a person of interest in the investigation.
Police tell FOX23 they have made several arrests surrounding the case, but still haven't arrested anyone for the homicides.
