A thief is caught on camera stealing a long rifle from a shelf at pawn shop and stuffs it in his pants.

Golden Pawn II contacted FOX23 News for help to see if the man seen walking out the door with a stolen gun in his pants could be identified.

The theft happened Monday around 11 a.m. at the pawn shop at 13th Street and South Peoria Avenue.

The video shows the man walk into the store with a limp.

"Here is almost holding himself up on the counter," said manager Greg Mize "Not acting like a threat."

The camera catches the man look around the store appearing to be on the lookout.

"He is making sure that he is not being watched," said Mize.

The video shows the man walk closer to the gate used to get behind the counter and stands there for a moment looking around the store.

"Here he is testing the waters of our little gate," said Mize. "He is like a kid. He knows he is not supposed to be back there.”

He is seen walking behind the counter and looks around and then takes the long rifle from the wall and walks in front of the counter.

"It was an incredibly bold move," said Mize.

Video shows the man walk by a pillar and it's hard to see but the manager explains he stuffs the gun down his pants.

"He lifts up his shirt and that's when he puts the gun under his shirt and in his pants," said Mize.

As he the man walks out the door, the gun is stuffed down his left pant leg.

"Right there you can see more than half of the gun is sticking up his shirt," said Mize.

The pawn shop employees do not know the man's motive for stealing the gun.

"Someone is out there with a 100-round clip," said Mize.

Now they want him caught.

"It's pretty much the biggest no-no to go behind the counter of a pawn shop," said Mize.

The owner put in an alarm so when the gate opens it alerts anyone in the store.

The gun is described as a Calico M100 .22 long rifle with 100-round clip

I'm going out on a limb here and opine that this thug wouldn't submit to a background check to buy a gun...
