Keep a tight grip on your purse because police say pickpockets are spending thousands of dollars at department stores.

Only on FOX23 News, the victim in one case said she had no idea she would be target.

Terrie Fadem was having a bite to eat a the Wild Fork in Utica Square when she faced what could have been a financial nightmare.

"When I went to pay for my meal, I said, ‘My wallet is gone,'" said Fadem.

While she looked for her wallet she got a call from Arvest Bank.

"Immediately I knew it was stolen,” said Fadem. "I asked the waitress, ‘By any chance did someone sit behind me?’ and she said, ‘Well, it's funny that you ask, because there was a couple that was in here for three or four minutes and then they left.’”

Not less than a half hour later, police said surveillance cameras caught a couple trying to spend $12,000 on Fadem's two stolen credit cards at the Broken Arrow Target. The bank flagged it before any money could be spent.

Detectives released the photos to FOX23 News.

The woman realized she left her purse hanging on the chair with it unzipped so her wallet would fit inside.

"You just get comfortable and you don't think about it," said Fadem.

She remembered the person who bumped her at dinner.

"I just thought it was someone getting the table ready," said Fadem. "I never thought to turn around."
Her friend did not notice the couple.

"They brushed, they physically touched me, not realizing that it was someone taking my wallet," said Fadem.

Police believe if the couple is brazen enough to pick someone’s pocket in a quiet restaurant and try to spend $12,000 in one shopping spree, they could be working with a larger group and more women could have been their targets.

If you have any information about the suspects call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS (2677) or text a tip to "CRIMES" (274637) and begin your message with "TIP918" or you can submit a tip online at www.tipsubmit.com. Remember you never have to give your name and your tip could lead to a cash reward.

I wear a safety wallet around my neck under my clothes to keep my debit card safe. I have been robbed of my purse twice. It is simply a string on a wallet. I also put my keys on the string too. It keeps my hands free and if a person reaches into my purse then they will be surprised that my wallet is not there and move on to someone else.

I got my purse robbed from me twice. Since then I have a wallet on a string which I carry around my neck under my clothes. That way they can look in my purse but I don't think they just want the rest of the stuff I have in it. This way your hands are free and If you have car keys, house keys, you can just put them on the string. You may look a little bumpy but can you imagine the thiefs surprise when they reach into your purse and can't find a wallet.
