Candidate withdraws from BA city manager

One Broken Arrow City Manager finalist has withdrawn his name from consideration.

Gary Greer, City Manager of Farmers Branch, Texas, has withdrawn as a candidate. Greer, who was selected as one of three finalists for the position, said he was very impressed with the community, but after considerable thought, has decided to remain in Farmers Branch.

“We have two excellent candidates we are looking forward to interviewing this week,” said Mayor Craig Thurmond. “Both candidates possess the qualities we are looking for in a City Manager.”

The following two remaining finalists will be interviewed by City Council on Sept. 13.

  • Dean Kruithof – Kruithof currently serves as the City Administrator for the City of Branson, Mo. Some of his previous positions include the Deputy City Administrator for the City of Fort Smith, Ark.; Assistant City Manager for the City of Dekalb, Ill.; City Manager for the City of Pittsburg, Kan.; Assistant City Manager for the City of Stillwater, Okla.; and Administrative Aide for the City of Wichita, Kan..
  • Thom Moton – Moton is currently the Interim City Manager for the City of Greenville, N.C. Some of his previous positions include Assistant City Manager for the City of Greenville, N.C.; Assistant City Manager for the City of University City, Mo.; Assistant Dean of Ellis County Center in Waxahachie, Texas; and Assistant City Manager for the City of Corsicana, Texas.
Former City Manager David Wooden was fired in April 2012 after working with the city for 22 years. Details of the termination were not released but Wooden had been criticized over his handling of the Red Clay Casino controversy.

Interviews are scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 13. Fifty-five applications from across the United States were accepted for the position.
