Broken Arrow city officials have issued a boil order due to a water emergency.

They said a water main break caused low water pressure that could lead to potential contamination.

They urge people to boil water for at least one minute before drinking it or using it for food preparation, dish washing, tooth brushing, wound care and bathing infants.

The Broken Arrow city manager declared a water emergency Tuesday after a substantial break in a main water line into the city from Pryor.

Businesses in the area have been affected by the shortage of water.

Faith Buchanan, a hair stylist at Sorella Salon in Broken Arrow, said that she was forced to cancel hair appointments because of the low water pressure.

"I got just enough water out of the faucet to rinse off my last customers and then I had to call and cancel the rest of my day," said Buchanan.

Buchanan said that she can't help clients if she doesn't have a steady supply of water

"We had to just shut it down and I hate to do that on a busy night," said Buchanan. .

She said that she will reevaluate her plan for Wednesday after she tests the water pressure in the morning.

All around Broken Arrow, people are dealing with a trickle of water. With the boil advisory in effect many are wondering what this means for them in the coming days.

Lianne Alfaro told FOX23 that she is concerned that there won't be enough water for her to take  a shower.

"I'm really worried about what I am going to do before work tomorrow," said Alfaro.

A water line break in Pryor in 2010 caused water issued in Broken Arrow. Faith said that she hopes that the issue will once again be resolved and business can go back to normal.

"We'll just wait and see what happens. It  all depends on the water pressure," she said.
