TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Friends of Kurt Budke in his home state of Kansas are remembering the Oklahoma State women's basketball coach as a fine coach and great person.

The 50-year-old Salina native was one of four people killed Thursday night in the crash of a small plane in Arkansas.  Budke earned his bachelor's degree in 1984 at Washburn University in Topeka, where he played basketball under coach Bob Chipman and served as a graduate assistant. Chipman tells The Topeka Capital-Journal that Budke was "a great friend and a wonderful person," liked by everyone on the Ichabods team.

Ken Darting coached men's basketball at Allen County Community College in Iola when Budke coached the women's team.  Darting describes Budke as having "an infectious personality ... not just a great young coach but a great guy."
