Monday evening, FOX23 News got word that Steve Spavital resigned due to health concerns.
He led the Broken Arrow football team to the state semifinals this year before losing to Union last Friday.
FOX23 digs into the story to find out more details.
For seven years and a state championship game, Spavital was a players' coach.
"Win or lose you're going to be proud of them because they left it on the field," Spavital tells FOX23.
As of a 7 p.m. Monday, coach Spav is walking away from the field citing health concerns.
In a press release he said his players don't deserve a coach that can't give 100 percent, a principle he preaches to his players.
"Coach Spav is always talking about effort; if you work hard you get in good positions," a member of the Broken Arrow team told FOX23.
With over 30 years of coaching experience, numerous awards, and sons that coach, football is part of his life.
"The people I've met, the young men I've coached, they've all made an impact on my life, and I hope I've been able to make a positive impact on them as well," Spavital said in a press release statement.
Spavital was 39-12 as coach of Broken Arrow.
