During Monday's school board meeting, the Broken Arrow Public Schools board voted to oppose the construction of a new casino at 111th and 129th East Avenue.
The Red Clay casino is backed by the Kialegee Tribal Town. A new elementary school and pre-K center are planned nearby, as part of a bond vote.
The school board unanimously disapproved of the construction project, and says BAPS will ask the tribe to stop building the casino, maintaining that a casino could bring traffic and crime to the area.
Last week, the city of Broken Arrow voted to send a cease and desist letter to the tribe although on Friday, construction had not stopped.
