The Broken Arrow Police Department will host a Citizens Police Academy class beginning January 3rd, 2013.
This will be an 11 week series of classes that will take place every Thursday night. The class is free but you must reside or work in the City of Broken Arrow and pass a background check to qualify.
Police say the goal of the academy is to educate and provide a better understanding of how a police department functions and operates. Instruction will consist of lectures, demonstrations, tours and hands-on training.
“Our goal through this instruction is to increase police awareness whereas to dispel any suspicions and misconceptions and to increase police/community rapport through this education process,” class coordinator Lisa Ford said.
Class subjects include: an overview of recruiting, hiring process, training division, traffic and driving simulator, use of force, officer survival, Special Operations teams, tour of the jail/communications/police department, criminal investigation, Victims of Crime advocate, K-9 demo, Crisis Negotiations team, School Resource Officers, city legal, and special investigations presentations.
After graduation you are eligible to join the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. For more information contact Lisa Ford, class coordinator at lford@brokenarrowok.gov or 918-451-8213.
