the anti-chloramine posters are paranoid. Hundreds of cities have been using chloramines to disinfect municipal water for nearly 100 years. There is no proof anywhere that chloramines cause any of the rashes or other problems that people claim. When Tulsa was converting, people started reporting rashes and problems months before the chloramines were added, merely because of news reports that said chloramine was going to be used.

This should lead to a boon in Reverse Osmosis filtration systems. Clearly Chloramine has toxic by-products, but infected water is worse, so it's the lesser of two evils.

Another way of the government to throw more poisons at use. This stuff even stunts plant growth. Thanks for causing more health problems!!!

I cannot use our chloraminated water-period-because of terrible skin rashes. None of the doctors I saw could identify the problem and it was only after I stopped using our water that the rashes cleared up completely. Chloramine can also cause digestive and respiratory problems. Please see www.chloramine.org for more information.

Citizens of Broken Arrow, please take the time to look into what chloramine is and the current science behind its 'unintended consequences'. Thousands of people in chloraminated areas across the country are suffering from acute exposure to chloramine including persistent skin rashes/burns after showering, respiratory ailments akin to asthma -again after and during showering and digestive problems such as IBS, reflux, mouth ulcers. Chloramine is being used to reduce toxic byproducts of chlorine (THMs and HAAs) While Chloramine does reduce these byproducts it creates an entirely new family of toxic nitrogen-based byproudcts including NDMA, Hydrazine, Iodo acids and DXAA. Google them. They are as much as 100,000 times more toxic than the byproducts of chlorine and the break DNA and damage cells. Chloramines cannot be filtered out of your water, it does not dissipate and cannot be boiled out. Chloramine is responsible for massive fish kills in the US and Canada. In one main break in Virginia, it killed life in 9 miles of stream. In Canada, 1000 species of fish and invertibrates. It also corrodes pipes, 'eats' rubber, pits copper and leaches lead. Law suits are pending in two states for damage to pipes in housing developments. Chloramine use adds to the pollution of major watersheds and presents a national security risk. Because it is more stable than chlorine, it will not react to an intentional bio attack on our watersystem. Peer reviewed science by national water experts indicates chloramine is the wrong answer, Citizen groups in 7 states, with the help of Erin Brockovich and Bob Bowcock, a nationally known water expert, are fighting to stop its use. Many cities, states and countries are rejecting chloramine after experiencing these problems. PLEASE stand up at these information meetings and tell them you do not want this in your drinking water. to read more see chloramineinfocenter.net, vce.org, chloramine.org.
