The schedule has changed for the final bridge removal as part of the I-44 corridor widening project between Riverside Dr. and Yale Ave. in Tulsa.
Starting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the contractor will begin mobilizing to remove the old structure at Lewis Avenue. This work will take several hours to complete.
East and westbound I-44 has already shifted to a portion of the new alignment south of this location, and no impact to highway traffic is expected during this work.
The public will not be permitted to enter the closed work zone areas or park along rights-of-way to view the deconstruction.
This final phase of the nearly $400 million I-44 Riverside Dr. to Yale Ave. widening project began in Oct. 2012, and is expected to complete in early 2014.
Work in this corridor includes removing the functionally obsolete bridge at Lewis Ave., widening the highway from four lanes to six and safety improvements to the Lewis Ave. junction.
