Bixby police say a stand off near 171st and Memorial ended when the suspect took his own life.
Bixby police say they responded to an alarm at the house around 10:30 on Tuesday morning and saw a man inside moving around when they got to the house. Police say they yelled at the man to come out but he did not. Police then treated the incident as a standoff.
After hours of trying to convince the man to come out, Bixby Police called the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office SWAT team in, which broke a bedroom window to make entry into the house. Once inside, members found the man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"It could have occurred right at the onset," Sgt. Andy Choate, Bixby Police Department, said. "There was a noise heard from inside the residence. It's just that the officer couldn't be 100% that that's what he heard was a gunshot. But there was a lot of banging."
Investigators say the incident appears to stem from a domestic dispute. The man had been married to his wife for 31 years, but on June 20 she filed an emergency protective order against him.
Court records show he was arrested last week for violating the protective order and posted bond and was released from jail on Friday.
On Monday he failed to appear in court for a hearing, so the judge granted a three-year protective order against him.
Court records show the man had been arrested for drunk driving in the past. Neighbors said he was generally a good guy, except when he drank.
