i believe that maybe the principals should be able to carry a concealed weapon and that other teachers if they want to be armed should be given police issued tazors and keep them locked up unless a situation occurs where it becomes necessary. i do believe that things would be safer with an armed person in the school, but at the same time if children are seeing their teachers and role models constantly carrying a gun i feel it will give them the impression that its okay to solve problems with violence. just my personal opinion.

This is actually a great idea that should have been brought forward ever since many unfortunate events happened with the kids at school. With proper education for the teachers along with cautious handling, this idea will create a safer environment for the students at school. Not only that this will help parents to be less worried of their children at school.

I hope it will be mandatory for teachers to disclose to parents if they have a firearm in school. I will pull my children out of any classroom where there is a weapon of this nature present. This was not the answer and only creates a dangerous situation inside the classroom.

Oh now I feel when my children are at school, they will be safe from pedophiles, fallout from stressed out individuals and from people that have mental breakdowns - because we all know teachers are immune to these disorders.

i have yet to meet a teacher that i would trust to carry a weapon at school. post one resource officer at a school, upgrade to bullet resistant doors that lock from inside, and train teachers how to react. people are letting their emotions outpace their logic. mommy and daddy need to raise their own kids instead of thinking the school should. i talk to my kids every day on how school went and what they learned. i have been a gun owner most of my life and have seen gun tragedies strike very close to home. i agree that more thorough checks need to be made when buying a weapon, but that is it. look for yourself at fbi crime stats, learn that just because it's on the news doesn't mean it's true. society needs to learn that babying someone's feelings or self-esteem can't always be the better choice. if my son as nut i would make dang sure he couldn't get into my safe. we need to open up and take a hard look at our problems and not just pass another law to paper over it.

i think this is a wonderful idea. teachers need more ways of keeping our children safe and protected. my oldest daughter starts school next year and i fear letting her go because of the violence and shootings in schools. at this point our teachers have no way to defend our children something needs to be done soon. of course proper training back ground checks and mental evauations should be done be for handing a gun over to anyone.

"We cannot just put it on schools to pay for something like this..." Actually, I've got to agree. This needs to be something that the teachers pay for themselves. Because until people like Keith Ballard start holding their state and city governments responsible for the distribution of tax revenues (that people like Keith Ballard keep wanting increased by means of higher tax rates) to the school system, there isn't enough funding for things like this.
