On Saturday members of the Florence Park Neighborhood Association dedicated a metal park bench in Pratt Park in honor of the late Wesley Brown.
Neighbors and friends and family say that the dedication came in a spot that held special meaning for Brown.
Last July, Brown was shopping with his daughter at a midtown Tulsa Best Buy when shots were fired outside. Brown was killed by a stray bullet.
Lance Woolsey and other members of the Florence Park Neighborhood Association told FOX23 that the park dedication was a small way to ensure that Browns’ memory would live on.
“He would love it, he and his daughter used to come down here make a daisy chain out of clover,” said Woolsey.
The neighborhood association completed a park beautification project which included shrubbery, walkways and new picnic tables.
“It’s the culmination of several years’ worth of effort that was started by the board and Wesley Brown was a part of that,” said Woolsey.
Woolsey said that losing Wes was difficult for the neighborhood. Wes was a close friend of many of the neighbors and had served as an ambassador for the community. He said that the dedication helped to bring closure.
“It’s just been kind of a finishing touch to everything, kind of a closure,” said Woolsey.
Willie Wise and Jeremy Foster have been charged with Brown’s murder.
