Residents living a Tulsa area apartment complex are concerned about bed bugs infesting their rooms.
The Annex Apartments located near 81st Street and Lewis in Tulsa, has confirmed one apartment has the parasites inside and another resident who has reportedly visited that apartment before also has the bed bugs in her apartment as of Friday. That tenant said she told management but management has not confirmed that.
Barbra Walker lives underneath that tenant. She is taking care of her elderly mother and is concerned about the beg bugs crawling into her apartment.
“I don't have them and I don't want them,” said Walker. “I am really concerned about my self my 90-year-old mother and my little dog here.”
Walker’s neighbor, Carol Butler, lives a few doors down and directly next to the initial apartment with the bed bug infestation that has not gone away.
“As we have been standing here talking you just get the itching,” said Butler. “I think the living room is the adjoining wall.”
Matt Gawey, manager of The Annex Apartments, told FOX23 over the phone that the apartments are sprayed monthly. He said the apartment next to Butler’s was sprayed last week but needs it again.
“We had the exterminator out last Sunday, and he checked several units only one unit was found,” said employee Vanessa Neal. “We have no other confirmed cases. We can certainly have the exterminator check. A lot of it is paranoia I am sure.”
Neal also said the tenants living in the infested apartment next to Butler’s apartment asked for the weekend to prepare the apartment to be sprayed by removing furniture,; therefore the exterminator is suppose to come on Monday. Walker and Butler think waiting until Monday is too long.
“I am angry,” said Butler. “It upsets me. I don't understand why they can’t do something or won't do something; something needs to be done.”
Correction: This story previously identified the apartments as part of the University Village Retirement Community. The apartments, called The Annex Apartments, are owned and operated by University Village Realty and are not a part of the retirement community. FOX23 apologizes for any confusion.
