A judge followed the jury’s recommendation and sentenced a Bartlesville teen to 30 months after he was convicted of planning to cause bodily harm.

Sammie Eaglebear Chavez, 19, was convicted in September of planning to cause bodily harm at the high school. Authorities accuse Chavez of planning a mass shooting and bombing at the high school, though no such attack occurred.

Chavez testified in his own defense and said he was joking about an attack. The jury recommended a 2 ½ year prison term for Chavez.

A judge sentenced him to 30 months with credit for time served, a $5,000 fine and $1,000 victims compensation, he’s also sentenced to one year of post imprisonment supervision.

You cant compare this to the Boston bombers because they built bombs, while this kid just vocalized a fantasy he had no intention of acting on. Next time Bartlesville cries "wolf!" no one will be listening.

BallBuster. :-/ At the time that the event occurred Chavez was just a minor. Injustice in oklahoma takes a long time. Poor dumbass probably learned only one lesson well and that was to keep his mouth shut.

Its not like this guy was a Kid, he was 19 a young adult and he knew exactly what he was doing, either that or he is a complete Idiot ! He was Probally both. How old was one of the bombers in Boston? 19 I believe, was he just a teenager as well?

I disagree that Bartlesville overreacted. In this day of so many school shootings, bombings, etc. I believe that Bartlesville made a positive statement. You are going to have to quit "being a teen and running your mouth" about doing violent acts because it will not be tolerated anymore. Maybe this sentence will make other teens think first before "running their mouths and joking around".

He was guilty of being a teen and running his mouth. All teens do that, it's not terorism. Bartlesville over-reacted. No one went to prison for singing along with Alice Cooper when he blew his school to pieces.
