BARTLESVILLE, OK -- A seven year-old boy is in the hospital following injuries he sustained after falling down a well near his family's Bartlesville home.
Bartlesville Fire Crews were called to the home in the 15500 block of State Highway 123, just after 5 o'clock, Sunday Afternoon. Battalion Chief John Banks tells FOX23 News, the boy was apparently outside at the time, when he somehow fell down a 30 foot water well in the home's backyard. According to Banks, the mother then slid down a pipe in the well and stayed with her son until first responders arrived.
The Bartlesville Fire Department lowered ropes and two firefighters into the well. After securing the mother and son they were able to pull them out one at a time.
The son was transported to Jane Phillips Medical Center with minor injuries and head trauma. The mother was uninjured.
At this point, it is unclear how the boy ended up in the well in the first place. Chief Banks said this is the "first time" that he can recall that Bartlesville fire crews have responded to an incident like this.
