University of Oklahoma football coaching legend Barry Switzer will address about 120 Oklahoma Army National Guardsmen and their families on Saturday morning.

Switzer, a spokesman for Pros 4 Vets, is expected to speak to the troops in Norman at about 10:00 a.m., Saturday. The soldiers are about to deploy to Afghanistan.

Pros 4 Vets is an Oklahoma-based non-profit organization committed to raising awareness and providing solutions to a multitude of veterans’ issues.

“Many of our Soldiers are huge football fans and having someone like Coach Switzer talk to them is very special. Some of these men and women are leaving home for their second, third and fourth deployments and the additional stress on their families can be significant,” said Lt. Col. Max Moss, a guard spokesman. “The Soldiers and their families are going to really enjoy hearing from Coach Switzer. It means a lot to our Soldiers and families that he wants to come and talk to them.”

The Soldiers and their families are participating in pre-deployment Yellow Ribbon training on Saturday and Sunday. The Yellow Ribbon program is designed to help prepare Soldiers and their families for lengthy deployments.

The Soldiers are members of the 1245th Transportation Company based in McAlester, Okla., and Detachment 1, Company C, 2-149th Aviation from Lexington, Okla.
