Along with back to school comes the back to school traffic. Along 51st street in Broken Arrow, FOX23 News is finding out some parents deal with a headache all year long.

Angela Short described the congestion as “a nightmare.”

It was a nightmare FOX23 crews saw started way up on Lynn Lane with an endless line of cars that continued all the way down 51st street.

“Broken Arrow is one of the biggest school districts, but this is one of the biggest schools, and there’s three in this parking lot,” Short said. “And it’s crazy.”

Like Angela Short, Zorida Ali estimated she’d been stuck in the mess for at least 15 minutes. But we discovered Ali was in an even tighter jam.

“I have two kids, so I have to drop off one here, and I have to turn around and go back to the other school.”

FOX23 saw firsthand how the line of traffic is only added to after parents drop off students and can’t get out, or when some, like Jessica Norton, abandon their cars.

“So you follow the lead of every other car in the parking lot,” Norton explained. “And [you] park where you can.”

But she, like other parents, wanted to be there for their kid’s first day.

“The parking lot just gets crazy,” Country Lane Primary Principal Leslie Officer said. “So it’s all hands on deck.”

Officer helped the situation by walking into the street to start directing traffic.

She tells us the problem gets a little better after the first few days, but with three schools, it’s still a lot of traffic.

“That’s why my son will be taking the bus,” Norton said.

And Ali agrees.

“We’re going to do the bus because I can’t do this.”

This is where technology can help. Use a Smart Phone app (like QManager) that shows school staff the location of the parents and then can guide the kids to come out at the right time and get in the car.
