The Broken Arrow school board is considering a furlough program for employees.
All principals, assistant principals, and other employees would be forced to take four unpaid days off for the rest of the school year. But teachers would be exempt.
The move would save the school system about $125,000 until the end of the fiscal year June 30th.
The goal is to prepare the district for the 2011/2012 school year, when a $3.5 million grant now being used to pay 91 teachers will run out. The district hopes to save money now so that when the grant runs out, it will have the money to retain those teachers.
A school spokesperson says the board will likely call a special meeting the week of March 22nd to vote on the furlough proposal.
If passed, those forced to take furloughs would be off the job the last four Fridays in June.
