TULSA, OK -- Meredith Allison Howard, 38. has been charged with child abuse by injury from an alleged offense that happened on November 4 of this year.  Police say a 19-month-old girl was injured at John Knox Presbyterian's Child Development Center last week.  An affidavit says the girl's private parts were injured, even requiring surgery.  Police tell FOX23 a child abuse charge is easier to prove than a sexual abuse charge in this case.

A second child abuse by injury charge is listed, from an alleged offense that happened in December of 2008.  Howard worked at Kirk of the Hills' Mother's Day Out program prior to working at John Knox Child Development Center.  A complaint was filed during her employment at Kirk of the Hills when a child allegedly had a leg injury; however, no charge was filed until now. At the time, doctors called the injury "extremely concerning as the victim does not have the developmental capability to produce the force necessary to break the femur in this manner." The affidavit says Howard claimed to have "set an 8 month old child down" hard, when he was being fussy.

Howard
was arrested Tuesday afternoon and was being held on $100,00 bond.

John Knox Child Development Center says it is doubling the number of staff members in all child care rooms, and looking into a video monitoring system.  The preschool says Howard passed all criminal background checks and reference checks.  The center will hold a parents' meeting at 6pm Thurs., Nov. 11.  Parents, and staff members are being urged to refer all inquiries to the center's director and the church's pastor.

Well it looks as though she may not be going to trial January 9, 2012. Her attorney, Mr. Smallwood, has filed for an extension which would delay her jury trial. He has already waived her right to a speedy trial in order to delay her jury trial in the first place. I have no idea why the District Attorney is pandering to his blatant stall tactics. Her attorney is obviously taking advantage of the old saying, “time heals all wounds”, with the hope that Tulsans will calm down and be merciful on her. I implore all that read this, Please don’t fall for his game. Let’s keep fresh in our memories what this monster did to that baby girl at John Knox Child Development Center. Keep up with what’s going on with her at: http://www.oscn.net/applications/oscn/CaseSearch.asp?query=true&srch=0&web=true&db=Tulsa&idccasetype=All&iapcasetype=All&iDATEL=&iDATEH=&iCLOSEDL=&iCLOSEDH=&number=&iLast=Howard&iFirst=Meredith&iMiddle=&iID=&iDOBL=&iDOBH=&SearchType=0&iDCPT=&iDCType=0&iYear=&iNumber=&icitation=&submitted=True The bottom three are her entries…Meredith Allison Howard

Howard was not charged with a sex crime. They said that hers was an act of violence and uncontrolled rage. This makes her brutal attacks on these two infants more heinous than that of a pedophile. Please don’t get me wrong, pedophiles are horrific animals that need to be exterminated. But their crime seldom, if ever, leads to the death of a child. On the other hand Howard’s acts of pure rage could. She could have just as easily broken the baby boy’s neck instead of his leg, and done much worse than she did to the baby girl. This woman cannot be allowed to free to harm another child. If she is not sentenced to life in prison then she needs to be in a mental institution for the rest of her life. According to public records her trial begins January 9th 2012 at 9:29am. And yes, she plead innocent.

It is truly horrifying to hear of things like this. It makes me sick. That's why I think it is so important for us parents to stay ever vigilant and never let our guard down. There is some great advise on http://www.decideondaycare.com/ on how you can keep an eye on things. Don't think your responsibilities are over once you start a daycare. Not by a long shot! This attention may not prevent everything but it can't hurt and if we can spot trouble earlier we will all be better for it!

mllj1 - YOU ARE A WALKING JOKE. It is not hush-hush and it is everywhere because it was finally exposed by the media, THANK GOD! Do you honestly believe that if Stephanie Taylor had it HER way that any of this would come out?? NO WAY! It would be very nicely tucked away forever and never mentioned again - you can bet on that one! You are obviously one of her little puppets, and that's okay. She'll be so proud of you for the way you stand up for her and how you keep trying to get us to believe she should not be held accountable for this. It's really quite touching. Maybe you'll even get a raise. However, THE TRUTH IS OUT. That place is a circus. As Fox Rocks said, THE THREE TOP PEOPLE AT JKCDC ATTEMPTED TO QUASH IMPORTANT INFORMATION. PERIOD. Why are any of them still there???

fox rocks: child molestation DOES NOT CONTINUE to happen. A situation happened, and it is anything but hush hush. it is everywhere, and that's okay. John Knox along with PASTOR JEFF are doing more than any other day care to prevent these kind of situations now. It will be THE SAFEST place for a child to be in in all of Tulsa. If parents felt the need to pull, i completely understand.. This would be scary for a parent to go through. However, this is not Stephanie's fault. Anybody who has anger towards stephanie for this situation or personal reasons, or wants someone to blame should be aiming their blame at the person who caused this. They shouldn't be trying to bring amazing people who love these children and want to protect these children down.

John Knox needs to replace STEPHANIE, MARILYN and JEFF. These three quashed important information in the past and their (official) policy is to do it again in this situation. I believe the way that child molestation and abuse continue is by keeping things quiet. I can't believe that the parents are accepting this policy and are abiding by it. It was dangerous then, it is dangerous now.

the number of required students per teacher is based on the age of the child. it's called student teacher ratio. 8 two year olds can be in a room with one teacher, but not anymore at john knox. they can not even take a child to the bathroom alone now, thank you.
