Around 3:45 a.m., 7 fire crews arrived on the scene of an ongoing fire at the Balboa Park Apartments, located on 51st Street between Sheridan and Yale. The flames were high and the heat was intense so two additional medical crews came out, resulting in nearly 40 crew members on scene.
Firefighters told FOX23 a total of eight apartment units were destroyed by smoke or water damage.
Noone inside the apartment was hurt, but one firefighter was injured after debris fell on him during the fire fight. He has since been released from the hospital.
FOX23 was on the scene Saturday morning as the power company shut the entire building's power off and some units were also evacuated. The firefighters told FOX23 that they had responded to two different fires at Balboa Park Apartments within the past 36 hours.
Stan May, of TFD, told FOX23 when they don't have a cause for the fire, an investigation begins on how it started. TFD wasn't able to leave until the investigation was complete. However, the cause of the fire has not yet been released.
Red Cross responded around 5:30 Saturday morning, providing assistance to the residents and canteen support to firefighters.
