A Tulsa woman convicted of murdering her husband was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

In March, a jury found Amber Hilberling guilty of 2nd degree murder for the death of her husband.

In the sentencing hearing the Assistant District Attorney argued to uphold the jury's recommendation of a 25 year sentence. They cited testimony about Amber Hilberling's behavior after her husband's death and while out on bond, including failing drug tests, letting her ankle monitor go dead and when in custody violating rules during a visit with her son, the ADA argues Amber Hilberling is better served by being in custody.

The ADA also cited reports of domestic violence against Josh Hilberling when the couple resided in Alaska and an emergency order he got against her as evidence she did not seek to stop the type of behavior that led to his death.

Several members of Josh's family, his father, stepmother, grandmother, brother and sister, all wrote letters to explain what Josh Hilberling's death did to their family.

His father wrote, "Josh is my firstborn son. I wanted him before he was born. The day he entered this world was one of the happiest days of my life. The day he was killed is the most painful and gut wrenching day of my life."

His stepmother wrote of plans to do volunteer work with domestic violence organizations to stop the cycle.

Amber Hilberling was also sentenced to a $10,000 fine. The judge said she will get credit for time served and will be eligible for parole after serving 85% of her sentence.

Amber Hilberling's family announced Tulsa attorney Clark Brewster will handle her appeal.
