Academy Award nominated director and Oklahoma native Terrence Malick will be the inaugural guest curator for Philbrook Museum’s "Films on the Lawn."

The program has been going on for nearly 40 years, but this is the first time a guest curator has been used.

The series kicks off Friday, July 5 with Humphrey Bogart in John Huston’s Truman Capote-scripted 1953 film, Beat the Devil. Followed by Preston Sturges’ 1941 screwball comedy, The Lady Eve(July 12) and Ben Stiller’s modern cult classic Zoolander, (July 19), the series wraps up with a special 40th anniversary screening of Malick’s debut feature, Badlands (July 26).

“This collaboration lends a personal touch to our popular series. And what films are more personal than those of Terrence Malick?” said Philbrook Director Rand Suffolk.
Malick is the Academy Award-nominated writer/director of Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line, The New World, and The Tree of Life, which won the coveted Palme d’Or at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Spring 2013 will see the U.S. release of Malick’s latest film, To the Wonder starring Ben Affleck, Javier Bardem, and Rachel McAdams. Filming took place primarily in Bartlesville and Pawhuska, Oklahoma.

Philbrook Films on the Lawn is a popular Tulsa tradition, bringing together friends and families on the beautiful Philbrook Garden for picnics, libations, conversation and a wide variety of classic and contemporary films. Admission is $5 for Philbrook Members and $7 Not-yet Members. Gates open at 7:30pm, films begin at dusk. In the event of rain, films will be screened in the Patti Johnson Wilson Hall.
