OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The auto club AAA and the AAA Foundation forTraffic Safety are starting a campaign to pass laws banning textmessaging while driving in all 50 states by 2013.
A new law prohibiting texting or sending e-mail while driving goes into effect in Arkansas on Thursday.
AAAOklahoma spokesman Chuck Mai says the organization will work to pass ananti-texting law in Oklahoma this year. He says AAA and other groupswill make presentations to the Oklahoma House of Representatives PublicSafety Committee at a special interim study on Oct. 8.
AAA says18 states and the District of Columbia currently have laws addressingtext messaging by all drivers. Two more states have laws prohibitingteenagers and new drivers from texting while driving.
